Common Questions

You do not have to pay for NHS dental treatment if, when your treatment starts, you are:
  • under 18
  • under 19 and in full-time education
  • pregnant or you’ve had a baby in the 12 months before treatment starts
  • staying in an NHS hospital and the hospital dentist carries out your treatment
  • an NHS Hospital Dental Service outpatient (although you may have to pay for your dentures or bridges)

You can also get free NHS dental treatment if, when the treatment starts or when you’re asked to pay:
  • you’re included in an award of Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit guarantee credit
  • you’re named on, or entitled to, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
  • you’re named on a valid HC2 certificate

If you're named on a valid HC3 certificate, you may not have to pay for all your NHS dental treatment. HC2 and HC3 certificates are issued under the NHS Low Income Scheme.
Unfortunately, the NHS does not give your free treatment as a pensioner. You are still entitled to free dental prescriptions.

You will also not be exempt from paying for NHS dental treatment because you receive one of the benefits below when paid on their own:
  • Income Support
  • contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Pregnant or a nursing mother
  • Tax Credits
  • Pension Credit savings credit
No. The NHS still charges for dental treatment just like prescriptions and eye tests. We do not currently have any private patients for general dentistry, you may chose to have items provided privately without affecting your status as an NHS patient.
Payment must be made at the time of the appointment and prior to the fitting of laboratory items. We accept all major debit and credit cards (not American Express) along with cash.
Under current regulations, no charge can be made for missed appointments. However, missed appointments cost us a lot of time when we could be treating other patients. We cannot tolerate repeated missed appointments and may ask you to look for treatment elsewhere.
We strive to keep the practice running to time for the benefit of you and other patients as well as ensuring smooth running for staff. Please be prepared to arrive a little early to allow time for any paperwork to be filled in. Remember, the time of the appointment is the start of your allotted time in the surgery not at reception.
We want you to be entirely satisfied with your care and treatment. If a filling, crown or bridge fails within a year we will normally provide free repair or replacement or full or part refund, depending on the circumstances in accordance with NHS regulations. This does not apply if the treatment was provided as a compromise against the advice of the dentist or if further deterioration has necessitated an entirely different type of restoration.
If you require additional treatment within 2 months of finishing a course of treatment, the current regulations allow for this to be provided without charge. However, this must be in the same or LOWER charge band. If your require treatment in a higher charge band this is chargeable in full. This may nopt apply to emergency treatment.
So long as you are considered a regular patient, we can provide denture repairs without charge under current NHS regulations. It may not always be possible to repair a denture. It usually takes 1-2 days for a repair to be made and we may need to see you for impressions and fitting.
We will offer you an appointment usually within 24 hours during normal business hours so long as you are a regular patient. The times of these are in accordance with any spaces in our appointment schedule. It is up to you whether you accept this time or choose to wait for a more convenient time.

What we offer

We provide all NHS treatment available and in addition have a contract to provide NHS orthodontics to under 18's. We provide private treatment on request and can arrange onward referral for specialist treatment both in the NHS at the Dental hospital or privately.

Treatments

NHS dental treatment includes all treatment necessary to secure and maintain your oral health. In some instances treatment is not available or allowable under the NHS e.g. minor orthodontic treatment, and private options may be available. Posters in the practice have information about the cost of NHS treatment. Your dentist will advise you of the cost of any private treatment. We offer a wide range of preventative and cosmetic dentistry, protective mouthguards etc. On occasion patients may be referred for specialist advice and treatment when this is in their best interests. For example, some surgical procedures may be difficult to accomplish under local anaesthesia and require hospital facilities. We accept many of our patients on referral from other dentists for Specialist Orthodontic work.
